River fishing

An unique chance to fish trouts in Finland is to head for a fishing trip in Kuusamo. To the three known troutrivers Kitka, Oulanka and Kuusinki.

Oulanka- and Kitka rivers

Oulanka offers the best sandy beaches in Kuusamo, where as Kitka is more rugged and barren with its canyon like river bends. Although these river areas are right in the middle of our most beautiful wilderness, they still are very easy to reach by car. The famous hiking trail Karhunkierros follows the rivers Kitka and Oulanka.

Oulanka river

This beautiful river courses through the national park of Oulanka. Oulanka river is best for early summer fishing as its the first rivers that the trouts swim to during the spring from Russia's large lakes.

Kitka river

This river has surprised many of its fishers with its large fishes. During past years the biggest catches have been catched from Kitka. Kitka rivers courses through pine tree forests in a deep canyon. Eventhough this river is very beautiful, it can also show its other face to fishers. It is very hard river to catch fish from, to an experienced fisher who knows the river well its not hard to go and just catch a few here and there. But for a new fisher the learning process might be long and hard. This river is best suited for those who dont mind to walk long distances in hard enviroment.

Kuusinki

Kitka is the easiest river to fish from the three great rivers of Kuusamo, it is also the most popular one. And for a reason, the trouts catched from this river can at their best weight around 7-8 kg. Also this river is very easy to reach and moving around the river is also easy as there are forest roads going beside the river on both sides.
